Camps & Excursions
An important aspect of our learning philosophy is the need to make connections with the outside world, making the learning more meaningful and practical. In doing so staff go beyond the norm to provide extra curricular experiences linked to learning programs in all sub schools. Excursions form an integral part of this strategy. They provide hands on learning opportunities, seeing, communicating, sampling and evaluating the world around them. These are generally planned as sub school activities and adhere to our Excursions Policy.
Examples include visits to:
- sections of the wider community, such as the ‘Chung Wah Community’ as part of Asian Studies
- historic venues, linked to Australian history
- Scitech as part of science programs
- the Constitution Centre as part of political studies and a prerequisite for the Sydney Canberra tour
- Junior Achievers Day – held at the end of each year to reward achievement and progress for Years 1-2
In addition, camps provide a longer experiential benefit, with staff taking students on a week’s education program. These include:
- Sydney Canberra Tour – a traditional opportunity for senior students to experience the political culture and national exhibitions in Canberra and the historic sites of Sydney
- Senior Camp – an annual event providing learning opportunities in varied recreational activities and sites of educational interest
- Achievers Camp – held Term 3 each year as a reward for outstanding achievement, linked to the Awards and Recognition Program for Years 4-7 students
Other experiential programs are arranged as ‘incursions,’ bringing scientific displays, performers and exhibitions to Beaumaris, as arranged by the sub schools.
