Leadership
Part of our overall vision is to promote and develop leadership skills and opportunities that equip students for active and successful participation in later schooling and life in general. Strategies vary from classroom responsibilities and personal confidence development (e,g, addressing assembly K-7) to whole school responsibilities, as well as a formal leadership program.
Whole School Leadership
School Council
Senior students who undertake a Leadership Program in Year 6 and are elected to the Council for Year 7. The Student Council represents the school on official occasions, assists in the organisation of school activities, undertakes special fund raising programs, addresses and coordinates assemblies and listens to and represents student views. Elections are held in December for the forthcoming year.
School Ambassadors
Senior students who undertake a Leadership Program in Year 6 and in Year 7, carry out the important PR role as Ambassadors, hosting campus tours, visitors to the school and special events.
Faction Captains
Senior Students who undertake a Leadership Program in Year 6 and are selected as school Faction Captains and Vice Captains while In Junior and Middle Sub Schools they represent their particular cohorts only. Along with faction leadership and organisation, part of their role is to also address assemblies regarding sporting reports and competitions.
Recycling Club
Students who volunteer to manage and coordinate the school recycling program as well as promote and report on the program at assemblies.
Environment Award
Students who promote environmental values and judge the school environment for weekly assembly awards to classes.
Leadership Week
Senior Leadership Week
In their first year of Senior School students undertake a week’s program of leadership activities and learning experiences (Term 3). The structured program offers challenges in leadership, teamwork and responsibility. These include physical, IT and personal programs. Students get to know their strengths and how to develop weaknesses individually and in partnership with peers. Guest speakers offer insight into leadership qualities and experiences in wider society.
At the conclusion of the week they will have nominated for various leadership roles in their final year of primary schooling. These decisions are based on personal preferences and capabilities which they have explored during the week.
A copy of a Leadership Week Sample Program can also be downloaded for further information.
Junior Leadership
Simultaneously, the Junior Sub School runs a mini leadership challenge developing personal confidence and responsibility, over a day or two. This less formal and a fun way to learn.
